Chemical dosing
Effective chemical dosing is essential for removing suspended solids, emulsified oil and colloidal particles from industrial wastewater. Pielkenrood designs and engineers advanced physical-chemical treatment systems that optimise chemical consumption, improve separation efficiency and reduce operating costs. With over 60 years of experience in water treatment, we combine proven process engineering with innovative mixing technology to deliver reliable, efficient and tailor-made solutions.

THE PROCESS
How it works
Small oil droplets and suspended particles often remain dispersed in wastewater because of their electrical charge. Chemical treatment destabilises these particles, allowing them to combine into larger aggregates that can be removed through flotation or sedimentation.
The process typically involves coagulation, flocculation and, where required, pH adjustment. Pielkenrood determines the most suitable chemicals and dosing rates through laboratory jar testing, ensuring that each treatment system is designed around the specific composition of the wastewater.
INNOVATION
Coiled Pipe Reactor technology
Pielkenrood was one of the first companies to introduce the Coiled Pipe Reactor (CPR) for industrial coagulation and flocculation in 1977. Unlike conventional stirred tank reactors, our CPR technology uses precisely controlled flow velocities to achieve optimal chemical mixing without mechanical agitators.
The reactor consists of specially designed pipes with varying diameters. Chemicals are introduced at dedicated injection points, while carefully controlled velocity gradients provide the mixing energy required for coagulation and flocculation. This approach prevents short-circuiting and back-mixing, creating consistent treatment conditions and reducing unnecessary chemical consumption.

PRECISE & EFFECTIVE
Key advantages
- Lower chemical consumption: Optimised mixing reduces the need for excessive chemical dosing.
- Energy-efficient operation: No mechanical agitators are required.
- Reduced maintenance: No moving parts inside the reactor.
- Precise process control: Controlled velocity gradients and residence times.
- Improved separation: Effective coagulation and flocculation enhance downstream flotation and clarification.
- Tailor-made engineering: Each system is designed for the required flow rate, wastewater composition and operating conditions.
how to use
Applications
Pielkenrood chemical dosing systems are used in a wide range of industrial water treatment processes, including refinery wastewater treatment, produced water treatment, petrochemical wastewater treatment, pH neutralisation and advanced oxidation processes. Our solutions can be supplied as individual treatment units or integrated into complete wastewater treatment plants.

expertise
Engineered for performance
At Pielkenrood, chemical dosing is more than adding chemicals to water. It is about understanding the entire treatment process and ensuring that every component performs efficiently. By combining specialist process knowledge with proven CPR technology, we help customers achieve reliable treatment performance while minimising chemical consumption, energy use and maintenance requirements.
